Say you want to make a blatant rip-off of Terminator…like a shot for shot one, but you don’t have the money to get it done properly and you are going to be making this to be enjoyed first and foremost by non-western cultures? Well in a pinch, when science fiction can’t be sustained, fantasy is always a nice reliable back up. Especially since “magic” can be broad and even better, if you can tap into an already fairly well-known legend (for the region) you can really start cooking with gas. And so, when director H. Tjut Dijalil – Jalil Jackson and producer Ram Soraya were looking for a new way to explain how they would power their own unstoppable killing machine, the Indonesian based crew turned their attention to Javanese mythology and found a villain in the Nyi Roro Kidul – the Queen of the South Sea.
