A pulp novel by Whitley Strieber was adapted and turned into an artistic exercise in erotic goth chic by a very young, but up and coming, Tony Scott. Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie are Miriam & John Blaylock, a pair of vampires living as rich yuppies in New York and all seems to be going pretty well for them- that is, until John begins to age at an incredible rate. Soon they are trying to have a gerontologist Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon) assist them- John hoping she can cure him and Miriam eyeing up the beautiful Doctor as a replacement companion. Groundbreaking, atmospheric and oh so confusing – just the sort of thing we enjoy around here. Tune in as Chris rants about Steiber’s liberties with reality, horrible twists, and what makes a “real” lesbian vampire film as the LSCE screens 1983’s “The Hunger.” Join us.
